Learning content

We start with the craft that every project manager should master. Using the proven PMI system, you will be guided step by step through the biggest challenges of classic projects.

Nowadays, everyone and everything is agile. At least that’s how it seems at times. “Agile” has now become a buzzword that is used in many different ways – but sometimes incorrectly. In this course, you will learn what agile really means and what is simply wrong.

With us, you won’t just fill your methodological toolbox with phrases. Together we will guide you through the most important agile methods for project management in an agile environment. You will learn about the processes, what challenges you may face and what tools are available to you to deal with them confidently.

One of the agile myths is that everything is agile these days. This much in advance: that is by no means the case. That’s why you will learn about both the classic and agile worlds of project management and, above all, how to differentiate between them.

Agile methods are large processes whose implementation can be complex depending on the organisation. Agile techniques, on the other hand, are tools that are easy to use. With the techniques from this course, you can make your work more agile from tomorrow and start in small steps.

So there are two worlds in project management. However, as is so often the case in our VUCA world (more on this in the course), the distinction is not clear-cut. As a project manager, you are often well advised to incorporate methods from both worlds into a project. These hybrid projects have special features, which we will of course go into in-depth.

Right, so you’ve been trained, you’ve filled your methodological toolbox to the brim – now what? Together, we will go through how you can gradually initiate an agile transformation, regardless of your position or the type of organisation that surrounds you.

Modules

This interactive course teaches you the most important aspects of both project management worlds: classic and agile. The first third of the course is dedicated to classic project management. In doing so, we use the most widely used project management method worldwide from the Project Management Institute (PMI) in Pennsylvania as a benchmark.

From then on it becomes agile. You will become familiar with the agile world with all its strengths and weaknesses and gain a deep insight into the most important agile methods. Finally, the two worlds merge, as you will frequently encounter so-called hybrid projects in your day-to-day business.

Module overview

01
Basics of project management

We will get to know each other, introduce the topic of agile project management and dispel myths about agile working methods.

02
Introduction to classic project management

We will illustrate the PMI system for classic project management and for the first time we will focus on the magic triangle.

03
The initialisation process

The first stumbling blocks arise with the project order. They won’t affect you in the future.

04
The planning

The planning phase is one of the most important in a classic project. Florian will explain in detail how you can break down even the largest project into tangible tasks, schedule them and distribute them to everyone involved in a comprehensible manner, taking risks into account.

05
Implementation and control

Even the best planning is not immune to obstacles in the course of a project. But don’t worry: after this module, you will be able to systematically recognise deviations at an early stage. Using a tried-and-tested model, you will also know how to take countermeasures in the event of deviations.

06
The conclusion

This important phase is often omitted in small and medium-sized companies in particular, as the next project already needs to be managed. Find out from Florian and Andrea what you need to bear in mind when finalising a project and how you can save money as a result.

07
Introduction to agile project management

We will give you an overview of the most important agile methods for project managers, take a practical excursion into design thinking and develop your agile mindset using the Business Model Canvas, Lean Startup and Kanban methods. You will become more agile in your thinking and will be given practical tools to work more agile from tomorrow.

08
Deep Dive Scrum

Probably the best-known agile method among project managers: Scrum. There is a reason for this. Scrum is a framework in which the unpredictable is not only taken into account, but even expected; which allows teams to sprint in a self-determined and autonomous manner; through which deviations are revealed almost immediately and which satisfies customers and other stakeholders early and consistently. Sounds too good to be true? Start your learning experience and find out.

09
Agile transformation

By this point, you will know that there is more to agile working than a secure methodology. An agile mindset is the breeding ground without which all agile measures cannot bear fruit. We go through this transformation together at all levels: from management to executives to individual specialists at a personal level.

10
Agile projects in practice

To bring your new mindset to life, in this module we look specifically at how you can make your work more agile in practice, whether as a specialist or a manager.

11
Classic, agile or hybrid?

The entire interactive course is practice-based. That’s why we talk about three types of projects that you may encounter in your everyday life: classic, agile and hybrid, i.e. a mixture of the two. Using practical examples, models and checklists, you will be able to differentiate between them and use the right methodology accordingly.

12
Your IHK Review

You have to earn your IHK certificate. We will prepare you together for your final review before you take it interactively.
